The Dr. T.M.A. Pai Foundation, Manipal was founded in 1981 to commemorate the life and achievements of Dr. Pai who, though a country doctor, by his vision and determination built a bustling township called Manipal, which is described today as an International University town. On 1st July 1988 the Foundation set up the Sharada Residential School, named after the wife of Dr. Pai. The school has gained recognition for its homely atmosphere, personality development, academic excellence and good medical care.
School Campus
Spread over 2.76 acres of land the school campus consists of large well designed academic blocks, playgrounds, laboratories with modern facilities, an excellent library and separate hostels for boys and girls. Instead of large dormitories, students live in spacious, well ventilated, comfortable self contained rooms having attached bathrooms and toilets. Generally four students share a room. Each room is provided with a locker, beds and mattresses, reading tables, chair, mirrors etc. Generally, vegetarian food is served in the central dining hall where all the staff and students have their meals.
Teaching Staff
The school has a well qualified and devoted staff, many of whom live on the campus. The teacher-student ratio is kept low to ensure personal attention.
Affiliation
The school section which has classes from VI to X is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi. At Class X the students are prepared for the Junior Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) Examination. The Junior College wing is affiliated to the Board of Pre University Education, Karnataka. The college offers only the science group (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology), along with languages like English, French, Hindi and Kannada. In 1993 the school received the membership of the Indian Public Schools’ Conference.

Admission
Admissions are made only to Class VI. Children can be registered up to five years in advance of the year in which admission is sought. Registered candidates are called in the first or second week of April to take the entrance test. The tests are in Mathematics, Kannada/Hindi and English. Admissions to higher classes are subject to the availability of seats. The academic year begins in June and is divided into two terms with vacations in October and April-May.
Results/Exam
The school has been recording 100% results in both the ICSE and II PUC.
Sports
Students begin their day with jogging and yoga under a qualified physical education teacher. The school has well maintained playgrounds for games like throwball, volleyball, shuttle badminton, basketball and ball badminton. There are excellent facilities for indoor games also. Karate classes are conducted regularly.
Extra Curricular Activities
Students are involved in a wide range of activities like quiz, debates, elocution, painting, drawing, doll making, vocal and instrumental music, jam sessions, flower arrangement, fancy dress, dancing etc. The school has professors & music teachers to teach vocal music as well as instrumental music like Veena, Violin, Tabla, Guitar and Key Board. All types of classical dances are also taught.
