Food Services: The Industry
Practically every day we read about the opening of a new restaurant or food and drink outlet, see advertising for a variety
of food items, new kinds of snacks and crispies or ready-to-cook dishes, along with information on health, fitness and
special diets. Food services is the era of food and drink with an new consciousness of service and convenience. The
fast-paced life in a changing socio-environment, with less time to prepare food and larger disposable incomes, has created
a growing demand for a fariety of food services, from packaged and processed foods to fast-food outlets, hotels, restaurants
and catering establishments. All these factors along with the spurt in tourism, pose and enormous challenge to the food
services industy and provides a host of opportunities for those entering this field.
